I have a 420 EX and I want to purchase a compatible battery pack. (I had to change batteries 3 times last time I used it...)

Is the CP-E3 compatible with the 420 EX? I have searched Canon's site for some sort of compatiblity chart and can't find anything. The manual for the 420EX doesn't have an "accessory list".

I'd consider any battery pack that can power my 420EX. Any advice?

Am I OOL, or is there one out there that I can use with the 420EX?

The CP-E3 is not compatible with the 420EX but Quantum makes packs that are. The Quantum Battery with the appropriate cable will work with the 420EX:

Click on Canon at the top of the link below to find the cable you'll need:

Thanks guys!

PacAce - the quantum looks nice, but I was hoping to find something a little cheaper.

SMP_Homer - After reading all about the BVS, it sounds great, but it is on backorder with no indication of when it might actually be in stock.

How'd you know about this product? Have you used it? Do you own one?

It might be cheaper and easier to get a 550/580 and a CP-E4.

ok Mr Scott...
I read all of those articles and building one myself actually doesn't sound too difficult.

I think I'll give it a try!

Well, I decided to go the DIY route. I purchased all of my supplies and will be assembling the thing tonight.

I now have one more question:
Where can I purchase a coiled cable with two wires? I have looked around on the internet and found a few, but folks here seem to always provide links to something better and cheaper than what I have found...

I am going to put a clip right outside of the flash, and a clip on the battery, so I can simply make as many cords as I want to connect them. Right now I have enough straight cable and connectors to do 3 different lengths from 6" to 6'. However, I am thinking that I will prefer a coiled cable to use with a belt pack, as in a wedding or reception or party situation, someone walking by might accidently "snag" my cable and a cable with some give could save the day!

So far, for battery, charger, cables, and connectors - $52.48.
