How much of the tonal range you wish to make use of in an image is subjective, but natural fur on this planet isn't green :)

Hey Deuce,
I'm going to debate you a little on this one. While I will certainly agree that I've never seen green fur on most critters...at least certainly never on a healthy squirrel, I do think the subjective nature of "white" should also be addressed.

As I'm sure you well know, if you take a piece of "white" copy paper and look at it under different lighting, that to the human eye it still looks "white" even though it isn't (unless your using daylight balanced light bulbs of course! LOL!). Incandescent looks redish orange, fluorescent looks blueish green, and so on. I wanted to address this because in the case of the op's shot here, I really didn't find the greenish tint to the squirrels fur distracting at all because clearly the white in the fur is going to be reflecting some of the green from the grass around the squirrel. Aside from my earlier comments about the shot being a little dark and such, to me it does look a little more natural then making the squirrels fur really white. If this little guy had of been situated some place white...maybe on new concrete or something it would have been fine to have the pure white fur, but otherwise I would expect a little coloration in the white from the surrounding colors.

Not really trying to start an argument here...just my $.02 worth :D.
Peace,
Jim

I think it is a great shot. The OP is in the UK. It is dark there. Probably a pretty accurate exposure.
I think you should groom the squirrel next time....perhaps get some other poses. :)
