After the rain fell all day today I didn't expect much of a photo op tonight. I did see that the weather might break though so I headed out to Jericho beach again to see if I could get the panorama's I'm looking for. No such luck. The weather did break, but only in a small patch so most of the pano would be nice and grey.

Instead I decided that this would be a great time to see how light evolves over time in the same scene. So I set up my tripod and prepared to stand for a while. Here are the results of tonight's experiment:

7:54pm

8:42pm

8:50pm

I would have stayed longer, but I have to pick my wife up from the airport and I wanted to have enough time to process these before I left. The quality of light degraded quite rapidly anyways so I think I saw everything I wanted too. I hope you enjoyed the series. I know I enjoyed the experience.

WOW Chris, you've knocked my socks off with those shots. We don't often get good sunset clouds here, but we did today. Trouble is that I was driving at the time and you know how fast these things change. By the time I got home ten minutes later, the show was over.

Isn't that the truth. That's really what I got from this series. Looking at 7:54 I had no idea what the evening would bring, but 8:39 is my favorite. By 8:50 the show was over.

While I appreciate your enthusiasm very much I'm not quite sure I'm creating masterpieces yet :) 8:39 is also my favorite of the posted series.

I took a grand total of 207 shots tonight. This was a sampling throughout the hour. I'm sure I saw scenes that were really spectacular that I missed for this series. I'll post any really great ones that I missed later.

I enjoyed the series. Makes me want to go to bed now since the sun has set. Too bad it's 10:30am.

Excellent pictures, congratulations.
Have you considered making a single picture out of the sequence? combining the best features from each one? That might be a great composition I think.

Brilliant series Chris.I love the first one, seeing the rays coming through the clouds, and that formation is fabulous.but 8:39 is a beaut.
How did you get a sunset! ;)

Thank you all for your feedback. It was my intent to show not only the best of the night, but how in the span of an hour the dynamics of a scene can change so extremely. It was an absolutely perfect night to do this series since there were very few people on the beach. You'll notice that there are only two tracks in the beach throughout the entire series, and only one of those was prominent. I'm not sure I would be so inclined to repeat this experiment when the beach was as busy as it normally is. I consider myself quite fortunate to have the experience I did with this last night.
