whats the best monopod for the $$$

looking for a monopod but all i know of brandwise is manafrotto and the ones i see in best buy. Is the manafrotto that much in difference compared to like a sunpak from best buy? also what are some other good ones to look at for the price?


canon equip'd
canon 30D/2 primes/3 speedlights/cyber sync trigger and recievers/and no money :(

One of the most popular monopods around here is the Manfrotto 680B. Can't go wrong for $60 bucks.

Manfrotto makes some great monopods including the 679, 680, and 681. They are inexpensive to boot.

In contrast, probably the best monopods are those from Gitzo. They are expensive but perform superbly. I feel the top of the line is the Gitzo GM5540.

AS jhom said, you can't go wrong with any of those three Manfrotto offerings. They're well made, sturdy, and not very expensive.

another +1 for the Manfrotto 679 with the 234RC flip head. Entire pacjage about $65

In sunny Florida with my..Canon 20D with grip, Canon 10-22 3.5-4.5, Sigma 24-60 2.8, Sigma 105mm 2.8 macro, Sigma 70-300mm APO 4-5.6, Dine macro ring flash, Vivitar Df 400MZ and bunch of Chinese accessories that cost almost nothing and work great

Another vote for the Manfrotto 680B. I top mine off with a Manfrotto 486RC2 ball head for additional flexibility in how my monopod can be used.
