Does anyone have anything to say about this lens? 55 -250 mm IS 4-5.6.

It is offered as a choice to go with the Xsi..and wondering if I should bother...about $350 extra

Depends on how happy you are with your Sigma. It's a good little lens, but $350 is expensive for it. You can buy it new at B&H for $280

I got it at Amazon for just over $250. It's good for the money but as TaDa said $350 is overkill. (Added: even $350 probably wouldn't be too high a price for it but it sells for less everywhere else, why overpay ?)

OTOH I noticed you're Canadian - do you have to pay extra tax if bying from Amazon ? I'd still check the Amazon price, it's likely less anyway.

Well I guess I should have mentioned that this also includes the new lens kit with IS the 18 -55 mm. I figured I'd get this as an extra. I need a new backup camera and like all new features of the Xsi so Ithought I'd get that and use my XT as the backup...for those of you with money I know this isn't what you'd choose but it is a major purchase for me. $799 for the Xsi alone...$1099 for it and both lenses.

I don't want to discourage your purchase of an XSi, but with 30Ds going used for the $500 range, have you considered getting one? They're absolutely awesome cameras. For a few dollars over $800, you're even looking at 40D territory

It's a decent price then, the new 18-55 IS is :) supposed to be much better than your old 18-55, and $350 for both seems pretty fair.

I'm actually in the market for both lenses myself. Is this a store you'd be buying from or a web site? If it's somewhere online, would you mind sharing the link here?

Thanks!

ONE handsome husband + THREE cute puppies + ONE 30D + THREE pieces of glass (Nifty Fifty, 18-55IS, 55-250) = ONE happy EmmyLou!

It's only around $270 on Amazon (was $255 last week).

Buy it, you'll love it! I took mine on vacation and it was on the camera for 90% of the time.

Depends on how fast you need that 55-250 IS. I bought it from Best buy. They have it for $329, but Best Buy and Future Shop both have customer appreciation type events, and usually give 10-20 % off. I got mine for $279 during their last sale online.

Also I agree with TaDa about getting the 30D. Awesome camera and i've seen a few now at about $550 in the Sell Forum.

ive just had a go with it in the local shop, and it seems a good lens, it wasn't too quick but that could of been the lighting.
