I just bought the E L - S k y p o r t , Elinchrom Wireless System a couple weeks ago and having a terrible time to make it function properly. Does anyone use this system on their studio lights?
I use the standard pc jack and adapter for my StudioMaster II lights. I had it working good during my last shoot but now all I can get is one flash.
I just kept the factory settings on the channel selector and purchased a new battery for the transmitter.

The batteries are full (receiver)?

After one flash, the receiver shuts down?

Mine does that (repeatable) on one out of three heads (goes for both Bron monolights and lumedyne head). Haven't gotten around testing why, just marked that one head with tape ;)

Try a different head, and see if it helps.

Did you charge the receiver(s) for at least 24 hours?

My Skyport system (two transmitters and six receivers) works quite well for me.

Why 24 hours, Skip? The manual doesn't mention anything about having to charge the batteries for that long (even for the initial charge)...

The receivers should work with just a couple hours charge, but I've found that it takes quite a while to totally top off the charge in a lot of battery types - especially if the device is being operated while charging.

OK, that makes sense. Just taking the variables out of the equation... :)

24 hour charge? Yes the manual says only 2 or 3.
I use the receiver plugged into the AC jack while shooting.
transmitter battery registers 3.3 volts on my volt meter.
Today I am going to try to buy a new battery.

The system worked great for my last shoot, I only did about 200-250 photos with the system.

Too bad their wasn't a tech support to call.

I just read this thread and realized I left my transmitter on after yesterdays shoot! I wonder how long those batteries last. Thanks for the reminder.

Probably quite a while, it does nothing until the shutter's pressed.

I used to have problems with my Skyports not firing sometimes. Since I have started turning on my lights before the receivers the problem has subsided. I don't have confirmation that turning on the lights first is what has fixed my problem; it's just a theory. Might be worth a try. If you decide to give it a go let me know your results.

I don't know how long it takes, but leaving the transmitter on will eventually kill the battery. I know this from experience. That's why I always carry a spare battery.
I do know that leaving it on a single day won't do it as I've done that many times. I'm sure that helped lead to it's untimely death though.
