Well I recieved my cybersyncs late yesterday. Overall first impression is very good. The trigger sits on the hot shoe very snug so no worries of falling off. In home the system did not ever misfire which is pleasing.

With my introductory slr body the max flash sync speed is 1/200. I shot alot test pics from 2.8 to 6.3 just to see how the images would turn out. Well I set my shutter speed to 1/250. No apparent or distracting black bar to be seen. The photos appeared to have no dark edges. The test shots with a SS of 1/200 seemed identical to the 1/250.

Is aperature the significant variable for the commonly seen "black bar" bellow the photograph? when shooting beyond the max syc speed??

Since I'm on a very steep learning curve I'm just satisfied with the Cybersycs. seem to be a very sound product with no misfires.

typically yes, remember that max sync speed isnt the fault of the trigger set but the nature of the mechanical shutter.

I don't think it's aperture, it's shutter speed.

Your sync speed has nothing to do with aperture, but everything to do with your focal plane shutter. At shutter speeds faster than your max sync speed, the shutter is actually only getting a "partial" bit of the scene onto you sensor.

You max sync speed can be lessened by a poor trigger, which has a delay between the actual shutter opening, and when the light actually receives the signal. So far, PWs are the industry standard. PCB has noted that you might have to use "one to two clicks lower" than the mfg recommended sync speed. This means that there is a delay between the transmitter and receiver and when the light syncs with the actual shutter opening. So far, users have tested the new Cybersyncs and apparently it has not effected the maximum sync speed, so far.

Sometimes the camera will actually sync 1/3 stop faster. My 5D can sometimes do 1/250s. I've had a 20D do 1/320s, but this might have to do with where the light from the flash is actually landing on the scene. If no light of the flash is actually hitting the "bottom" portion of your film/sensor plane, then you actually can sync a little faster.
