i know that it's work on 1D classic from like 15 and up. you'll get a little vignette on 15 in the corner.

im looking to get a 40D or 1D, wanted the 1D because its such a nicer camera for fps and focusing, and the 1.3x crop makes my 70-200 more usefull on certain stuff.

but if the 12-24 will provide the same result as a 1.6x ill just deal with that and get a gripped 40d

I have a griped 40d, and 30d, at one time considered getting a MkIIn.
Held off because of the price difference between the 30d and MkIIn then.
And since getting the 40D and grip, i haven't looked back. I will eventually go full frame, but the 40D is a great camera, and handles much like a 1D body with the grip. Abet without some of the watersealling, and the viewfinder, the 40D is a camera you can not go wrong with..
