I am planning on picking up a wide angle lense and I have been suggested the 17-40 f4L by a few people now. I was just wondering if it is worth picking up or is there a better alternative to this lense?

If I shot people I'd have something else which was faster. My nifty and 28-135 (excellent copy BTW) go on when things get darker without tripod. 6D | 70D | 24-105 L IS | 17-40 L | 300 F4 L IS | 50 1.8 II | 1.4x II | LR5 | HV30 | bug spray | wilderness

I found people complaining about sharpness wide open, but I thought, what the hell, I need wide angle for a trip in september...and it has to be better than the kit lens.
