Ixus 400 broken LCD

Help! I have a Canon Ixus 400 (which I am very happy with) which has had an unfortunate accident at a rather drunken wedding reception. The outcome of this is I now require a replacement LCD screen.

I have removed the broken screen which, to my suprise, is made by SONY??!!?? I am now trying to source a replacement part but with little or no success. The part number quoted on the screen is AM313EKA (or it may be ACX313EK-7 253ADOT).

I have contacted Canon whose response was it should go to an authorised dealer. This would cost loads of cash and I am most reluctant to do this as replacing the screen is a literally a 2 minute job. SONY's response was 'it's not in one of our cameras so sorry but goodbye'.

Can anybody out there help me please?

Totally SHOCKING! I own a Digital Ixus and Ixus 500. And I thought that Canon used a Sony LCD screen for the Digital Ixus due to certain reasons (Maybe they didn't know how to make them at that time? ) but in this day and age??!! Canon ought to make their own LCD screens - and make them bigger (2.0") w/ more pixels  .

Anyway, back to topic, is your Ixus 400 still under warranty? If so, take it back. LCD repair/replacement shouldn't cost that much (Under $100?)

Thanks for your replies. Unfortunately I am in the UK where things tend to cost a lot more than the US!!!! Do you now if the Canon dealers mentioned previously will ship abroad?

Thanks again, any help is appreciated.

I've just bought a screen for my ixus400 from lehmannsdirect.co.uk for 35+vat

They said deliver is about 1 - 2 weeks.

They'll do it for you for 90-115.

you'll find them on the net @www.lehmannsdirect.co.uk (external link)

talked to bloke this morning, said it was easy to replace the screen if you were patient!

A bloke in the parts shop said discharge the flash or get a nasty kick!

He said it was the first thing they teach any camera technician.... He told me to use a 12V car bulb and two wires.... not your hand!
