So I just got a job within my work to take pictures of our finished products...schools, jails, courthouses and various gov't buildings. My current setup is the kit lens, nifty fifty and the 70-200L. I don't want to use my kit lens, at all(Ive been spoiled with 'L' quaility).

Can anyone give me some tips with shooting this type of envioronment? Should I just bite the bullet and pick up a wide angle lens? (it will double as a freebording/skateboarding lens as well) or should wide angle not be used for architectural shooting?

Any comments or suggestions would be awesome! Thanks

Wide angle can be very good for building shots but what you need to worry about is barrel distortion. This is effectively, a fish eye look and people don't usually approve of this for architectural photography. For buildings you usually want straight lines, straight.

I read that. I kind of understand it.

Can anyone post some example shots of that and why it is good for wide angle architecture?

Grab the Canon TS-E 24mm f3.5L for building shots.

If you need more artictic shots, go for a UWA but remember about distortion.

When you talk about distortion coming in where is that going to be most prevelant.

Say I was using a Tokina 12-24 on a 400D. At 12mm is it going to have that distortion? Or more towards 24mm?

5D+Sigma 12-24 @ 12mm (building in the bg just to the right of centre. Its not supposed to be that distorted.

Ok, its bit of a different angle to what a TS-E might be used for but just an idea of what UWA will do.
