Can't open .CR2 on Photoshop CS2

I simply cannot open the camera raw on my Photoshop CS2 (Mac OSx)
Canon 40D I don't want to convert them to jpg, I want to be able to manipulate them as RAW ...THEN... converto to jpg, lot of ppl tell to get the DNG from Adobe, I did, but that only convert, for me to be able to work with the picture, But already converted! correct me if Im wrong, maybe I'm too upset to think -.-
if the camera RAW 4.5, 3.7 cannot open .NEF(Nikon) and .CR2(Canon) wich are the MAJORS, what is it for?
(must be something that I missed or Im wrong with?)

If you haven't already, go to the Canon website and download the Raw codec for your camera. It's free!

I couldn't open my CR2 files in PS CS2 until I got that file.

You have to be using the latest Photoshop to work with certain versions of camera raw after a certain point. So you might need CS3.

Photoshop CS2 cannot open CR2 RAW files created with a Canon 40D.

You have three options:
1. Upgrade to Photoshop CS3
2. Use the free DNG converter and convert the files to DNG format which can then be processed in CS3
3. Use Canon's DPP which came free with your camera.
