when getting a new battery.. do you drain them or charge them?

i just bought a 2000mah BP-511 battery for my new 40d :)

got it for 13 bucks.. i love ebay! :)

anyway. i always hear rumors.. do you charge them at first.. or drain the crap out of them with your camera?


and how many times will you have to drain the battery? i heard a few times?

Its a Lithium Ion battery, right?

Just charge it, use it, and don't worry about it.

so basically.. use the battery as a spare..dont drain the whole battery by using it alot?

Nope. Just use it normally, but don't run either it or your existing battery into the ground.

well. i just did with my canon battery. just once though

i guess when the low battery starts to blink.. time to change :)

I usually charge a brand new battery as soon as I open it.
