Pretty sure my 5D bit the dust today. after each of the last few shots i got i heard a sound like a spring uncoiling then it just let out a long grinding noise. I powered it off and it continued. after taking the batteries out and back in again it would make the noise in a about 3 sec burst still in the off postion. turn the camera on it reads err99

anyone have ideas?

Are you sure its a 5D?
It sounds like the marvelous toy the Irish Rovers sang about.

It went "zip" when it moved
"Bop" when it stopped,
"Whirr" when it stood still.
I never knew just what it was
And I guess I never will.

Sorry to hear of your dilemma, sounds like it needs to go in for repair.

There is a fine line between "hobby" and "obsession"
