So I've never seen these spots yet on any of my images (just rolled over 4K on my 40D) until today.

My wife and I took our son to the Kids Quest Museum and because of how dark it was I had to use my newly acquired 430EX. This is my first extensive use with it and these are the first images I've noticed these spots on. Also, they are NOT on every image, so I'm not sure what's going on here.

I did a search and saw that this is somewhat expected with long exposures at higher ISO, but mine were probably 1/60-1/200 and ISO 100 or 200. So the only thing I could think of was the flash causing the issue?

Is it anything to worry about? Tomorrow I'm going to go and take some shots outside to see if I notice anything.

Example photo below (nothing done to it besides converted from RAW and then just a slight resize):

In this particular photo I've only found two, one much worse than the other...

Please advise!

Thanks

Hi
Try to make some shots at different exposure times with the lens cap on.

Where? I don't really see anything out of the ordinary.

I guess he's referring to the white spots in the kid's hair.

Are you sure they're hot pixels and not the flash bouncing off of dust or something. Are they in the same place in many pics?

On another topic, szoze, you've been a member since 2002 and made 7 posts, now you've made two in five minutes!! Wow, welcome back! :D

Whoa, whoa, slow down szoze

Well, I saw the spots in the hair but thought nothing of it as I've never seen hot pixels like that. Most I've seen are red, green or blue but mostly red.

I think it may be something highly reflective in the hair.

It's easy to tell though. Shoot the same settings of differnent subjects. Hot pixels will be in the same spot each time.

Yes, those are just reflections. If you use a flash in a dusty environment, have dust on your lens or when it's snowing you'll also get similar 'spots'. Nothing wrong with the equipment.

Spots are not in the same location every time and not in every picture.

I had a funny feeling it might be related to the flash, but wasn't sure.

I'll keep an eye on things - thanks for the replies
