I realized today how much of a pain it is shooting from a boat in wavey water. To say the least, it was too much fun!

Thanks guys! I bounced back and forth between the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 L and the Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM kit lens.

it seems that the blue angels fly nearer and closer to the audience compared to the Thunderbirds

Thanks guys! It certainly was a challenge with the boat bobbing all over the place.

As for cropping, they were flying low enough, I was pretty much able to capture the airplane within the whole frame, so they really didn't need much at all.

#7 is normally used as a backup jet..

There very well could have been. I saw it sun but my friend saw it sat and said that for a while, there was only 1 solo performing.
