Anyplace is a good place. Just avoid the strap that has the wrist wrap, it sort of sleeves through your hand and all the way to the wrist.

I love my hand strap, have it on the 1D. I also have the neck strap, a quick release LowePro. The only moment where I do not really enjoy it is when I must take portrait photos, and that sort of thing.

Otherwise, it is great for those situations where one must keep the shutter ready to go for long periods of time, to get a handful of great pictures. Helps greatly maintain the weight of the rig.

And for what is worth, it helped me increase a bit my handheld stability, or so I think.

Yeah. The hand strap goes over the right side, from the strap loop on top, to a lower loop in the bottom side. Here is an important bit though:

XTi Does not come with the lower loop (1D series does, and all Battery Grips). So make sure you find a way to hook the lower loop. For a while I used an adaptor that attached to the Tripod thread. I actually think it came with the hand strap I had purchased from BH Photo.

Otherwise you will be unable to put it in the camera.

Like this (here's the one I originally purchased, though I installed on the 1D without the plastic component at the bottom).

Hope this helps.

I've got this one (external link) and love it. It comes with the plate to screw on to the bottom of the body.

Nikon makes a leather one. I don't know what falcro is, but I don't remember ever seeing it listed as a material in any of the wrist/hand straps.
