Yeah, that's usually the way. They love to sit on posts and call, so I've gotten a couple like that, but usually when they are in the grass, I can't even see them, so yeah I was glad to get this.

Thanks Mitch, they are pretty numerous around here -- at least along the front range and plains (not in the mountains). That's one thing I love here is you can just go east or west to completely different climate areas.

I've never seen one of these birds other then pics...was it stretching it's body up or does it have long legs?

Kinda long, I don't know that it was particularly stretching in this shot - certainly it was taking notice of me, so maybe. Probably leg wise about like a flicker or a robin..
