Can someone tell me how they get the whole background filled with the gel color? Mine usually have a brighter spot then fade out where you can see more of the original background show thru. I have a 7" reflector on my light,t hen clip a 12" gel in front of it. EVen if I layer them, they don't seem intense. do you keep that light right behind the subject pointed at the bg? because that doesn't always work out too well in the posing dept. Any pointers?

The further the light is from the background, the more even it will be

I use a 430ex with my gels and put the wide angle flap down. Not sure if this helps a whole lot but it fills up well.

flash gels from music store

I get my gels from the music store - you know the ones musicians use in front of their stage lights. Cheap and effective.

How and where did you guys get the gels on the flash?

Tape

I cut the gels to fit inside my studio strobe softbox or if I am using a flash I either use an elastic band or tape.

If I am covering my large Photogenic II strobes then I join 4 gels edge-to-edge to make a large square sheet then use cheap stationary clips to hold it onto the light.
