I took a trip out west last week to meet up with a group from the University of Georgia, where I went to college. Last time I was there was in 1988, when the whole place was on fire, so I really didn't get to see much then. I took my wide angle lenses and attempted some landscape shots. The weather was great, but usually the lighting was pretty harsh so I didn't get as many shots as I would have like. Yellowstone was crazy crowded, I'd certainly never go there in the summer again!

On the morning I was leaving Grand Teton, beautiful light!

Funny the last time we were in Yellowstone was 1988 also, although the fires had just started and did not effect us. Your pix certainly make me want to go back.

I love the last one. The light on the house is a killer. How about a little burning on the mountains to get some more contrast?

Thanks for the tip - I really wished I'd had more time there that morning. There were a bunch of photographers out. It was pretty hazy off in the distance but I hadn't thought to try burning for the contrast! Beautiful park, I highly recommend it. Crowds were much more tolerable there for me than Yellowstone.

Looks like fire haze. Not much you can do.

Great light on the Mormon Row shot. Yes it's been done (myself included) but it never gets old. I too struggled with haze on the Tetons as well.

Funny, turning on Mormon Row was really an accident. I was just following my GPS for getting out of the park and was really wondering why I was on this dirt road. When I saw the barn, I immediately recognized it because it's so well photographed. Thing is, right before that I had just seen this stunning goshawk sitting on a fence post right next to the road, in perfect light and with the mountains in the background. Unfortunately I hadn't been planning on taking any photos that morning since I was in a hurry, so I just had to watch it as I didn't have my camera out. Now that would have been the shot to get!

Beaufitul shots. I have never been to Yellowstone, but thanks to great images like this, the urge to go keeps growing.

Thanks, I've heard it's great in winter and I'd love to get back then. Personally I would avoid it during the busy season. It's great to have a lot of American and foreign tourists and people who are interested in the park, but at some of the popular sites it's almost impossible to get shots or even just enjoy nature because of the huge crowds. At times I felt like I was at WalMart on the day after Christmas.
