I find a walkabout lens more suitable to be a zoom lens to make it that much more versatile to be honest but I wonder what a prime would be like now. airfrogusmc I'm a chimper. There I said it... More info | Its a PERFECT walk around lens. Some of the greatest street photographers have and do use it as just that. FF of course. Maybe a 24L on a crop.

Sometimes I go with 50 1.4 only, still fine. So like the advise above, use your zoom at 35mm for a day and decide whether that is right for you. Arnold

I have had zooms, but feel more comfortable with primes. I use the three primes listed in my signature for everything (including weddings). The 35L is an absolute joy as a walk around for me. Helena Goldmember 1,385 posts Likes: 16 Joined May 2008 Location: Trondheim, Norway More info | I use a 50/1.4 on my 450D for walkaround now and love it. It's slightly too long though, so I have ordered a 35L which should be perfect. I plan to get a 5D soon and then it will be even better. I have 85/1.8 and 135L too, but wouldn't hesitate to bring only a 35L for shorter trips.
