Yep listen to Skip. And I would recommend that you do not photograph with your "Pigs Suck" t-shirt on. (that is a no-no)

Thanks for all the replies, some of which were very funny. I'm 52 as well and I wasn't concerned about him outrunning me!

It wouldn't be so frustrating if the chief would admit we have a problem. This will not even be considered an "accident" in his records because it wasn't metal to metal. There have been 3 similar incidents in the past 12 months. I've been trying to accumulate my own evidence to support our claim that we have a problem. Obviously the chief feels if it's not in his statistics, it's not a problem.

Sounds like your problem is bigger than the beat cop who tried to harass you. Good luck with the neighborhood situation. There are not many things more frustrating than feeling that your family isn't safe and not being able to do anything about it.

Does the chief know about you and your efforts to force a change regarding this road? Does he disagree with your effort?

It's possible that his officers are then also aware of you and have a quiet order to try and run you off to interfere with your evidence gathering. Cops will use intimidation like this when they know they can get away with it.

I hope it's not the cop that caused the accident?

Maybe he was cutting off that BMW? Then I'd be really careful, or you might end up having a meth lab discovered at your house.

Your inability to get even recognition of the problem is probably motivated by money. If they admit to a problem, then they are forced to do something about it, and that costs.

True story. St. Paul High School is located in Santa Fe Springs, CA, on a side street. St. Pauls is a private Catholic high school.

The intersection where the side street met the thoroughfare was a "T" intersection with very poor visibility and only a stop sign. At least a half-dozen accidents occured at this intersection every school year, but the city steadfastly refused to admit there was any problem.

Then Sprint decided to put a major service center on the same street as the high school. This service center would have a couple dozen truck going in and out around the clock.

A stop light was installed while the service center was being built.

Why? Because Sprint produced money (in the form of tax revenues); the high school did not.

The moral? Telephone service trucks are more important than high school students.

Didn't I hear about the photographers that were taking pictures of Princes Diana after her accident being brought up on charges for not helping out and taking pictures instead? I don't think I ever heard the result of that.

I am not sure if I could stand around to take a photo after an accident. ( Not that the OP did, obviously there is nobody in the car)

Having been a high school student (its a vague memory now) I can honestly say thats a pretty fair assessment.

Just proves that anal orifices are in every walk of life, and have the benefit of a measure of authority in some of them!

I always think of them as "donkey graves," that is, a hole for an ass without a life.

All the parts of the body had an argument about who should be the boss. Each part argued his reason for why he should be the boss. The brain said, "I'm the smartest, so I should be the boss." The eyes said, "We see danger, so we should be the boss!". The ears counterargued, "But we hear danger than the eyes don't even see, so we should be the boss." The stomach argued, "But I help keep all of you alive, so I should be the boss." When the little rectum tried to make his point, all the other parts collectively laughed and would not hear him out. So the rectum stopped working, and all the other body parts started to get feverish, until they finally gave in and let the rectum run the show. The moral of the story is that you don't have to be a brain to be a boss, simply an a**hole.

I would pass on the photo of the officer to the police department and explain what happened.

This is good advice, but I would go one step further. After you've explained what went on, show them the pics and make a complaint against the officer.

Stand up for your rights, always.

I'm glad I posted. I haven't laughed this hard in quite some time! At the time, I was pretty pissed, but the replies have helped soften the situation.

I did call the chief and surprisingly he called back. The community we live in has a population of 4,000 and the police are normally very friendly to the residents. He's also aware of the many village meetings out neighborhood has been to and the fact that I've photographed the accidents. We had a good discussion and I explained that I simply felt the officer went too far. He sided with the officer, which I expected he would, and said that the "crime" site should remain pristine. I asked why other cars could drive through but I could not walk by and the topic changed quickly. Maybe it took the incident with me and the arrest threat to finally draw attention to this situation. I believe if I wasn't there and threatened, it wouldn't have the same impact (no pun intended). Thanks for all the funny comments!

I notice you used the 24-105. Next time the 70-200 might be a better choice (with the lens covered in a black sack and you hiding in the bushes).

Keep all your records, including a list of dates and times of meetings and who you spoke with. Then when a car slams into your house, you go after the town for damages because they knew there was a problem and failed to take corrective action, even something simple as more frequent patrols/radar on the street.
