Like the title said, I'm sure someone asked this. My searching skill not so good.

Anyway in a week and half I will be in Italy! Yea! This is a family trip but the family loves to show off the country. So I have the camera bag all set, 40d 17-40, 10mm fe, 35 f/2, 50 f/1.4, 85 f/1.8 plus all the junk to make it run.

Now my dumb questions:

Do I A- bring a tripod? and B- do I get a small one, like it will fit in a shoulder bag deal or just bring my current one with?

I think really want to know how much use I will get out of a tripod? Does anybody know of restrictions in country using one, e.g. not on the streets between 6am and 10pm sort of thing?

I have no idea where we are going, I know Rome for sure (after all they live there) but my Uncle said we will figure it out there....

Mike

Always keep tripod with you, to me it is one essential tool for travel, will give you a lot of fun and more keepers, so don't hesitate to take one with you, and be sure to have one good enough quality and not just cheap & not sturdy enough.
We don't know which tripod do you have, but if you have good budget then look at some Gitzo series 1 or 2, the alternative is Feisol.

I see.
In fact you should get or need a tripod, Italy is nice at night as well, so night shots you definitely need a tripod.

Tareq, not meaning to be rude because I'm relatively inexperienced, but what would be wrong with going with a gitzo 0 series? (i'm personally considering one for travel).

I am not a tripod expert at all, but after i read many reviews and recommendations i saw that series 1 is the most recommended for travel, series 2 or 0 are also good, but you have to be sure of weight and load and so, to my opinion, Gitzo series from 0 up to 2 are all great for travel, series 3 & 5 are little heavy and more sturdy so not most preferable for travel i think [But i am sure there are people travel even with heavy tripod no big problem for them].

I never leave home without my Manfrotto mini tripod (The small tabletop one) plenty strong enough and only cost like $30

Everywhere you can take a shot you can also use a tripod (that is practically everywhere except in some churches)

No idea, The number of cities in the world is way too many to remember which will and wont allow it. Try google.

Some places like the Leaning Tower don't allow any bags at all so choose your equipment wisely before you lock it away.
