400D upgrade to 30D

I know all about the quality of the 30D and how superior it is to the 400D in terms of functionality. I have a 400D currently, it is my first ever DSLR, which I bought last Summer for a trip to Singapore and China. I have since bought a BD-E3 battery grip and a 17-40mm L and 50mm f/1.8 to accompany the camera and now I feel that the camera is holding me back. I feel that the 400D is very lacking in terms of build and grip size as well as speed of use. So I think I need to upgrade my camera.

I was just wondering though, will I see a difference between the 8mp 30D to the 10mp 400D? I'm not much of a pixel peeper, but I do value sharp images that my lenses allow me.

Also, since there is no dust removal on the 30D, am I likely to be cleaning the mirror more often as I have never had to maintain my 400?

I have been offered a 30D for £329, which I think is pretty ace.

I know this is my first post, but I am very knowledgable on cameras and would like some sensible answers! Thanks!

If you make large prints, then you'll see the difference in the images. A3 size or similar.

It's the sensor that needs cleaning, not the mirror. I cleaned my 40D (which has cleaning) for the first time a week ago, after eight months of use. And yes, I do change the lens rather often.

Is the 40D too expensive? Otherwise, it's a more logical step than the 30D today.

400D is good enough for a lot of photo shooting. It is only lack the spot meter and BQ from the 30D. If money is not a concern I'll upgrade to 40D instead.

I've had a 30d for about 18 months now, cleaned it twice - once just to do it, and once because it needed it. I think it's a great camera, although if you can get a 40d for just a little more money, I'd probably do that.

I had the 400D a while ago. I upgraded to the 30D just like you're planning on doing. But it's only my temporary body. It will soon become a backup to my 40D. The MP size doesen't really affect any of my shooting.

I had a 400D which I very much enjoyed and upgraded to a 40D. I had focus problems with the 40D and purchased a 30D...I love it and the image quality is just as good. In fact, I have taken a few which I feel are a better quality. The absolute best part of the update is the control dial on the 30D...it makes manual use so much more of a pleasure and much quicker....I'll stick with the 30D for awhile because I simply love it!
