Never use a grip with my 40D, just too much extra weight and size with no real benefits for me. I do use a flash handle bracket sometimes, much smaller, lighter, cost less and extends the flash above the camera when required.

Aug 05, 2008 18:15 | #17 I think you will be used to the grip, not just the larger size. I usually carry my camera by the bottom of the grip so I wouldn't be surprised if I where to drop my camera if I didn't have the grip on there.

I shoot quite a bit, vertically, btw. I would imagine it would be more comfortable with one. I should try one out, first, if I can. Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.

krepta I swear I'm Ken Rockwell! 8,482 posts Joined Sep 2007 Location: Irvine, CA More info | I have large hands, so the 40D feels small in my hands without the grip (my XT, meanwhile, feels almost microsopic, haha). My grip is always on because I also use a hand strap, and I like the ability to more comfortably shoot in the vertical plane. Alex | flickr

I would find a grip a step backward. Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.

Thanks for the advice! This pretty much summarize my opinion too.. What we see depends mainly on what we look for.

However, if you have quite small hands like me, a gripped 40D sized camera is just far too much of a handful. I felt like I was constantly struggling to reach all the buttons and trying to get a good hold of the camera.
