I'm trying to figure out Manfrotto's site which is beyond miserable and I'm unable to find which model has flip out tripod legs.

I really like the tripod legs in this video (http://prophotolife.com …talk-from-mini-to-mighty/ (external link) 3 minutes in). I'd like to find the current model with same features.

Anyone knows?

One thing to note, I currently have a cheapo 719B and one of the plastic clamps has broken with very, very light usage... I hope not all Manfrotto clamps are plastic.

Great review and pics. I'm considering your setup for my own 40D with grip etc. I did notice this ball head from Manfrotto at Amazon and wonder if anyone could comment about the grip vs. knob on these heads?...

I tried one of those grip ball heads in the shop, it works really well but not enough to justify the extra cost. I found I actually preferred using a normal ball head where I can hold the camera in my right hand while I position it so ended up buying a 488 RC2 instead.

I prefer any other ballhead over the grip version...

That head always looked too big, bulky and awkward for my taste. While its a good idea and from what I have read well executed, its just not portable enough I think. Which is fine if you dont intend to be taking your tripod with you a lot or carrying it much.

It's fine if you want precise control of your head position, and won't be moving the head much once you're set up. If you try to move the head around a lot (macro of live critters, say, or action), you'll get incredibly sore muscles from squeezing it all the time. It is also, as others have noted, rather bulky and awkward. I have both that and the 488RC2; the 488RC2 sees vastly more use than the 322RC2.
