My birthday is coming up and my friend said she will get me basically within reason whatever I would like.

I already have the tripod, memory cards, batteries, all cables (Home outlet, car charger, dual inline charger etc) as well as the UV Filter.

I am looking at the following:

Hoya 58MM R72 Infrared Filter
Hoya 58MM CIR Polarized Filter

What else should I get filter wise? I take A LOT of macro and telephoto type pics. Basically, if I can take a picture, I am. I'm a picture whore x100. That should help with some suggestions on filters. Where is a good place to get deals if I puchase multiple filters? Anyone know?

Also, I'm looking for gel lights for night pictures.

Any other items I should look for ?

I plan on keeping most of the items when I upgrade to a EOS-20D in the near future. So keep that in mind.

Anyone have any recomendations for telephoto lenses for this camera or am I stuck with the TC-DC58A Telephoto and 500D for the macro?

Thanks for any help/suggestions!

I'm not too sure if the pro1 can do IR photography.

As for teleconverters... Raynox has a 2.2x but it is soft along the edges and there is a bit of vinetting to contend with. I don't have the URL here at work so I can't link you directly to it, but if you do a search for Raynox's website, it's some like like the DCR2020 or to that effect.

If you do plan to get a TCON or macro lenses, I would highly recommend getting the Canon tube adapter for it as well. The Canon 1.5x is HEAVY (I'd venture to guess it's as heavy as the camera itself), and the 500D and more so the 250D are heavy pieces of quality glass.

Let's see if I can attach/link an image properly here:

These two images of your everyday, household 2.5mm long ants were taken with stacked filters: 250D + 250D + 500D

As one can see, DOF presents a serious challenge under these circumstances. :)

BTW, happy birthday to ya.

Thanks!

Yes, this can do IR photos. How do I know? I placed a remote pointed at it, then pressed the buttons. It showed up in the viewfinder and LCD.

Keep the suggestions coming. ;)

Yes, you can do IR with the Pro1 and the R72 filter.

I don't think it's particularly successful, not as good as my G3 even, because of the long exposures required.

I second the idea of getting macro lenses. I have the teleconverter and it makes an excellent stalker camera too, but gee it's a heavy chunk of glass.

The one accessory I use frequently with the Pro1 is my 420EX flash unit with a Stoffen OmniBounce. That's worth getting, IMHO.

Can you go into a little more detail on this? How long an exposure do you need for the IR filter on a regular sunny day?

I'm also looking to use this at night....

Were those pictures from the G3?

Those are Pro1 pictures and exposures were in the range of 1 sec (plus or minus.) Tripod a must.

Newer Canon camera's have a "hot filter" that filters out IR. The G1 seems to be the best of the series for infrared.

I've posted some G3 IR pictures at the following link.
