I just received my Tamron 17-50 F/2.8 from Adroma today. I picked it up at a good price, as it was a demo. I noticed a small like finger nail scratch on the lens. I took a few pictures and do not notice it at all and even looking into the light I do not notice it at all. Is this something to worry about? I can try to take a picture with the 50mm macro if you want to see it.

Thanks in advance.

Kevin

Gratz on the new lens. If it shoots well and you can't notice the scratch and you got a good deal then whats not to enjoy!! I'd say keep it and have fun.

I can not notice it at all. Got it for $379.00 with free shipping. Not to shappy I thought.

It is a good lens to have (I love mine!!). If it doesn't show up, I say keep it and forget about it! But, even if it doesn't show up in the photos, if it bothers you enough, you should see if you can send it in for another copy (not sure if you can do this with a demo).

380 for a scratched lens is not too good of a deal, me thinks. you can certainly find 17-50 below that price here.

Here is a picture of my African Grey.

OK I just hit it with my Micro Fiber cloth that I use for my glasses after I felt it and it is gone. Now I am thinking it might have been a little adhesive from the bubble wrap stuff they packed it in.

Mr. E do you have a filter on yours? I do not have one yet but contemplating putting one on. There is pro & cons to both.

I'm glad to read that you were able to remove the "scratch" from your lens. Had it really been a scratch, I would have immediately shipped the lens back. While it might not show in some images, with oblique lighting, it could cause all kinds of weird reflections, refractions and distortions.

If your lens were a "true" macro lens, I might not put a filter on it. On a zoom lens with a macro function, I would definitely put a decent filter on to protect the front element. The idea is to protect the glass from getting damaged in any way. True macro lenses tend to have a front element set deep in the barrel so it's not at as much risk.

Glad to hear your lens cleaned up nicely. Did it come with a lens hood? If so I wouldn't worry about putting a filter on it. Just keep the hood on whenever you shoot. I'd only go with a filter if you were shooting someplace where dirt, sand or other debris being blown by the wind might damage the front element and you need that extra protection.

Scratches and dirt on the front element of the lens almost never show in pictures, unless the blotches are large enough to affect light coming in.

I wouldn't call it the best price but it's backed by a reputable store. So if you don't want to take the chance of buying from an individual, keep the lens and enjoy it.

It's a great lens. I've enjoyed mine thoroughly.

I've seen this a couple of times, people mistaking smears for scratches. If it really was just a smear, then use some lens solution and cloth, clean it off, and enjoy! If it actually is a scratch, send it back! Especially if that wasn't disclosed.

When I first tried to get it off the lens it stayed in place. I lightly rubbed it with my finger to feel how deep the scratch was and it was gone. I am gathering the bubble rap bag had some adhesive on it and that touched the lens and made it appear it had a scratch. It is fine now that I cleaned it better.

The picture I posted in not the best, I had my 2 little girls fighting over me as they wanted pictures taken of them. I zapped one of my bird real fast just to see if you could see what I thought was a scratch.
