Noticed my 1Dsmk2 had a few hot pixels on the sensor. Kind of annoying when viewing at 100% so I called Canon and thy said send it in, we can probably remap the sensor if it's not too bad. (which it is...not too bad that is, only a couple few) So I posted in the hot pixel question on FM and was pointed to a thread for a do it yourself fix for hot pixels on a 5D.
Gave it a shot and it worked.

Here's the deal (forgive me if this is old news and browse on friends)

Put the body cap on, put the camera in "clean sensor" mode and click the shutter release as if you where going to clean the sensor. Wait at least a minute (I waited two) and shut the camera off then back on and you're done....Very cool, no more pink and red dots.

Again this was originally for the 5D but it worked perfectly on my 1Dsmk2 tonight. I don't know why or how but it works and my images look better than ever at 100%.....

Cheers all :D

Eh. I tried it with my cameras back in the day and it didn't do a thing. I call it out as an Urban Myth.

I dunno man. I tried it like 50 times and it made zero difference on either my 10D or my 1D II. Fortunately Lightroom zaps 'em anyway so it doesn't really matter. My in-camera JPEGs have black eyes tho - especially at higher ISOs.

Perhaps it's a FF thing but whatever, like you say, lightroom takes care of them and I'm pretty sure ACR does too....Just thought I'd share my results...

Ever tried putting your camera in the fridge? That should cool the pixels off.

Sorry, I had to make the corny joke.

There have been a few threads about this at dpreview and folks swear by it.

I have tried it with my 30D and 40D and no luck. Does anyone know the theory on why it should work?
