Metal trader

I work in the City, which is London's financial district. For some reason, in the mid 90s, they put up a hideous metal statue of a city trader using a mobile phone. I've bumped into this statue more than once in my time, and I've always wanted to get a good photo of it. I've taken a few quality photos with my 20d, but the composition was always lacking.

Well today at work the lighting was pretty good, and someone had stuck a newspaper in the crook of his arm, so I grabbed a quick snapshot of the statue with my Ixus 430. I'm not great with composition, but I reckon this is better than my average. Hope you enjoy it...

Not bad. Might have been better from the other side, with his shadow in it. (would be tricky to get your shadow out, but maybe stand to the side in the buildings shadow?) Nice work, keep trying

Unfortunately, right next to where I stood to take the picture is a huge double postbox, so the view from the other side would have been a bit ugly I think.

I like the shot but I might crop of the bright spot off of the left side but that just me

Shooting from the other side would also make the newspaper either entirely hidden or only partially visible. And I think the newspaper in the statues arm is what defines the pic.

It's a neat shot with great lighting.
Needs a good contrast boost, though. And I agree with flyfisher's cropping suggestion.

Thanks for your comments guys! I'm pleased this picture is still attracting the occasional comment after a week Just shows, you have to be patient sometimes.

I don't really have the skills to sort the contrast out. Originally the shot was very dark, with almost no detail in the trader, so I lightened it just a bit. Perhaps that destroyed the contrast.

Not at all, I think it looks better. I'm gonna have to learn Photoshop one of these days.
