if the benro C-128n6 is as good as i think it will be. i ordered the benro yesterday from china because i am super impressed with my benro monopod (MC-66n6) which performed like a champ on my recent african safari.

if the tripod passes muster i will be selling both my manfrotto and slik CF tripods and both manfrotto ball heads.

right now i have a 6 lb. and 2 lb. tripod and my feeling is one is too heavy and the other is too light.

i figure that a sub 4lb. tripod and head can take the place of both since i use my tripods infrequently and almost exclusively with short lenses. i figure this tripod would be small and light enough for travel and robust enough for "everyday" use.

okay...to bring the weight in under 4 lbs. i'm thinking of one of the markin heads....the q3?

and if i do get the Q3 what other accessories will i need to attach it to my camera?

thanx for your help :D.

a fitting L-bracket or a universal plate that is designated to the type of looking system (e.g. Arca).

other than that, do you have anymore information on this find? i recently took the "minimalist approach and my GiTZO 3530 is somewhat overkill for the short lenses i use.

my intentions are not to hijack your thread, by the by.

oh and yes, i did mean, "by the by".

I could possibly be interested in the Manfrotto tripod and at least one head. Would you be selling all at one price or breaking them up individually? Also, which Manfrotto and head(s)?

Ed,

I have almost the same setup. I have the C-227n6 with the markins Q3. Supports the 1D MKIII with every lens I have without issue. Opens and closes quickly and in every sense is comparable to the gitzos in my book for about 35% of the price.

As far as accessories, I use the Kirk L plate for the 1D MKIII and the regular camera plate for the 5D.

Enjoy, you're going to be very happy with it.

RG -- i considered that tripod too but i wanted something a little lighter that i could also travel with.

i guess i have to do more research because i don't quite understand the whole plate thing....only that they are more expensive than they should be :D.

ben -- i considered the 1540 and maybe would have bought it if it were taller. what's the max height of the the 1541T w/o center column extended?

i'll look over your link. what did the head and all the accessories (not the tripod) set you back?

thanx,

hi Ed, did you buy it from B&H? also, which head are you using with the benro tripod? i couldn't seem to find the C-128n6 on their site. also, do they have one that will suppose a 30D+grip+70-200mm 2.8L?

i hope you will post an in-depth review of it when you get it.

in the u.s. the tripod is marketed as the the c-158n6, which BH does carry but is not in stock.

i haven't selected a head yeat but i'm looking at the markins q3. i think this tripod would be okay for the set-up you mention.

i will post a review when i get it :D.

Max Height fully extended (which is never recommended to be done on any tripod) is 58" from floor to the top of the clamp on the ballhead.

Total price was around $1k.

I thought the same thing until I actually received the L plate. It's very light and adds negligible weight to the camera when installed.

I agree with Ed. $180 for a 'L' plate for my 1D3?

i'm an infrequent tripod user and for as little as i use the portrait orientation it is my hope that a $500 ballhead is up to the task ;).
