Hi all,
I'd just like to thank all who post here! This is my first post but I have been reading a bit here lately. All the info here is an amazing help to a first time DSLR user like myself!
I have just purchased my first DSLR in the form of the new Canon EOS 450D Digital Rebel XSi (boy they know how to name these cameras lol). I'm only using the kit lens EF-S 18-55mm IS currently and I am having a terrible time trying to get the photos clear (but that's another thread topic). I have been out and about with the Canon lately and I'd like to share a few "highly sharpened" photos with you all.

The result of dried silt being trapped after washing opal dirt. (Lightning Ridge is one of the only places on Earth where gem quality black opal is mined) This shot was taken at 1/125sec, ISO 200, f/10 and desaturated/sharpened in photoshop.

A couple of very old claim pegs and number tags used to mark the corners of a mining claim. This photo was taken at 1/1000sec, ISO-100, f/4.6 and sharpened in photoshop.

These forums (and photos taken by all here) are just amazing and very inspiring!
Cheers and take care,
Shauno

Hi Avin,
Thanks kindly for the comments!
I have a tonne of shots to choose from but they are all slightly blurry? I'm only learning how to use the 450D. I had a hybrid before so all the hard work was taken out lol. DSLR's are a real challenge at times (but I love a challenge :D )
I may post a few more when I can.
Take care,
Shauno

Yeah, they should have names like 'Killer' or 'Gotcha' or 'i-shot' :)

Welcome to the forums, looking forward to more of your work!

I thought I would throw a few more shots up here after an interesting afternoon's photography yesterday. I have had some AF issues but I'm just sticking with MF for now, or until I can get hold of a new lens.
These are all hand held using the kit- EF-S 18-55mm IS lens.

Take care,
Shauno

A couple more. These are all taken at a small, old opal field on the edge of town called The Pony Fence. These are my first "decent" shots that I've had a chance to grab with my new Canon 450D. Canon's are amazing camera's to say the least! :)
The photographer in the photo below is Russ, a good friend of mine and my lightning photographer-partner in crime.

I liked the old car (an old Holden I think?) that was stuck in an old heap of opal dirt. On reflection maybe I should have taken a lower stance and disappeared the trees from the background?

I kind of like all of these, especially #1. I don't see a focus issue in any of them.

kenyc: Thanks for the kind words, much appreciated!

canonloader: Thanks kindly! #1 & #2 were both done with auto focus when I first got the 450D. Using the 9point metering gives a bit of a front focusing issue with the kit 18-55mm. Seems fine when I just set it to center point focus though? All the newer shots are fully manual focus, which I just love using now! :D

Take care,
Shauno

Great pictures. Next time try using just the center metering point and spot metering. Also you could try using AV-mode at f/8-11 and it should get sharper. I had the same issues with my 40D

I can't stand using Manual Focus. Nothing ever comes out good when I do it. Even when I wear both pair of glasses. :)
