Canon EOS 40D Package sale for $1300: Is this price GOOD?

Found a nice Canon EOS 40D package deal brand new for $1300. It includes the obvious:

Is this a wise investment for $1300 or no? The standard Canon 28-135 is not in this package.....

That is an awful lot of stuff for $1300! Try using www.resellerratings.co​m to check out the vendor.

I'd look elsewhere for a basic body and lens kit. If you are talking US Dollars this seems suspicous. If it is legit, all the add-ons are most likely JUNK quality. If it seems too good to be true...

IMO I'd rather be able to pick out the add-on's myself and make sure that I'm getting decent quality components. Definitely sounds fishy.

Looks like those ebay package deals which are mainly compromised of useless or low quality junk. Pass.

Wow.....You guys are hard to fool. Yes, it is an EBay package. I did however, buy my Konica-Minolta maxxum 5D there as well and I got it with all the standard lenses from Minolta. I have had zero issues thus far, and the results are fine to me, but I am not an "expert". Maybe the lenses are not the best is what you are saying.... I didn't know if they were CANON lenses, they would be junk unless they are standard Canon lenses and Canon makes much BETTER lenses.....

What lenses would you recommend with the Canon EOS 40D if the standard package Canon lenses are not 'good". One thing though, I hate seeing a black body with other than black lenses. call me weird...I just don't like the mix match look. So, if you have a suggestion, can we keep it black on black?

I am open to your expert suggestions.....

I guess I would need 3 lenses? A wide lens, zoom lens, and the 50mm seems to be a hot choice...... what are the better lenses to get without paying $500 a lens? Like, "you should get at least an F/2.8 because....." etc or, can I get away with just two lenses that will give me total flexibility to go wide, macro, zoom etc. with only 2 lenses......

Do you guys use filters? (UV, Polarizing, Warming, etc)

If you want to stay below $500 and buy the Canon brand you might consider the 17-85 mm IS, the 50 1.8 or 1.4 , the 28-135 and one of their zooms.

agreed on the 17-85mm as a starter kit...or 18-55IS (NOT the older 18-55 f/3.5-5.6) if you're on lower budget or 17-55 f/2.8 if you have higher. 17/18 is wide enough for general use.

Since your budget is $500/lens, look at my sig. Only the 70-300 IS is more than 500.

Costco has the 40D with 28-135 lens for $1,149.
