is a gamecock a breed of rooster or just the name of a mascot?

From Wikipedia.....

A gamecock is a type of rooster (external link) with physical and behavioral traits derived from breeding for cockfighting (external link). Gamecocks are usually much more territorial, have less prominent combs (external link) and wattles (external link) (which may be removed entirely in a process called dubbing) , and have hard feathering. There are numerous chicken breeds (external link) which fit the gamecock type, but a gamecock is not in itself a breed. Today, cockfighting, like most blood sports (external link), is illegal in most of the world, but exceptions exist. Gamecocks are bred for traits that make them less suitable for barnyard use, and are kept today in the developed world primarily for exhibition (external link) purposes. There are several breeds of chicken, such as the Modern Game (external link) and Old English Game (external link), which fit the gamecock type but are not directly used in cockfighting.

thanks for the explanation- I do have a photo of a clandestine illegal cockfight that I attended when in Indonesia. But it was from my film days.
What an experience. A few hundred people betting crazily on each fight. People go crazy and nuts at these - much like the crowd at a Buffalo Bills game (but a lot smaller).
Actually even IF I had the photo scanned, I wouldn' post it as many of the people who photograph the beautiful birds in this forum probably wouldn't want to see it.
