So, I am looking for something to do to 1. expand my knowledge, skills, and creativity a bit and 2. keep me busy while my wife is immersed in her second year of Vet School.

I was thinking about taking a Photography class at our local Community College, however, only one of them seems halfway decent. Then I realized that this is something that could be taught online. Have any of you taken any online courses that you would recommend?

I am interested is many types of photography, so either a general course or a place where I can take specific classes on say Portraiture, Landscapes, Nature, etc...

Any recommendations are greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I have taken a class (via mail) with NYIP (external link) (New York Institure of Photography.) I thoroughly enjoyed it.

If you know a little more than the basics, they now have a short digital course.

Never mind- played with the handy search function and found a Bryan Peterson course. Done!

Good luck with it, & let us know what you think of it later.
The "Sticky"s have a lot of helpful info in them, + people willing to help in the "Share" areas. + the web is FULL of helpful info, so I'm not sure that I'd recommend a formal course for everyone.
IMO, the main thing schools will do for you is force you to go out & take pics? And, if you have to be forced to do it, then you might as well pay for the whip? ;)

I've taken two classes with betterphoto.com and really enjoyed them.

Fundamentals of Photography Made Easy - Summer 06
Looks like it's time to take another one :-)

Yeah- this is why I want to take them. I just want something that will make me try new stuff. Not so much to force me to get out and shoot, but do get a bit more creative than my normal stuff.

Plus, so many times I have posted photos in the share section with no comments. If no one comments, you can't learn, so effectively you have wasted your time.

Bryan has several thousand of my dollars. I don't regret any of it. I've shot with him for days at a time. He's a fantastic teacher, knowledgeable and FUN.
