As the title says, I would like to take some glamour portraits of myself since I don't know any glamour photographers around plus I think its just another way I can learn something about lighting. My question is how would you set up the lights and then trigger them, focus, etc when you are doing a self portrait? For lighting I have a 430ex, 580ex, and AB800 with softbox and umbrella. How would you go about this set up? Any advice?

I did this a few weeks ago to just test out some lighting technique. I have 2 ab 800's... so I put the soft box directly behind me.... and then a slight fill to camera left... using an umbrella, and bounced rather than shooting through.

I wanted to create a dark sort of moody image with a strong backlight to highlight the curves of the body with enough fill to lead the eye .....

It worked nicely.. I think the BG light was set around 1/2 power and the fill was 1/4 or so... I put a sitting stool with a large stuffed animal to focus on, with the camera on a tripod. I put a mirror next to the camera so I could check my pose..... then set the timer on the camera, and moved the stool and the animal.... and waited for the camera to release....

dumb.. and you feel stupid... but it was kind of fun. :)

Check out anything by LOREK and you'll see what I was trying to achive..... Hope this helps a bit... :)

Hope that helps some... ;)

Ha! :) They are a little much for sharing.... LOL..... But I do kind of like them a little bit... maybe I'll share after the "select" few approves. ;)

Instead of the timer, I had a remote cord which I lengthened and used that - so I wasn't waiting for the timer at all - and the AF was still active so each shot was 'freshly' focused.

I also used the remote software that ships with the Canon camera and wired the camera to a computer - so I could see, instantly, whether the shot worked (The camera sends the picture to the computer and displays it on the computer screen).
