I'll just post a couple but I had fun shooting these events since the athletes seem to really get into it (having a photog there). Feel free to crit as I haven't done this type of stuff at this point but will definitely be doing more.

These are great! Nice DOF. Sometimes I like to take panning shots of the bicycle portion of the event. Another spot I like is near the watering stations along the run. Ever try to run and drink water from a cup at the same time? Gets some great facial expressions and water flying to cool off.

The last one I had to look at his left calf for like a minute until I realized it was his shoe :) Nice shots.

thanks and seriously, that's what these forums are for.

you can shoot Av or M for bike racing. I tend to prefer M since I don't run the risk of getting a really slow shutter speed due to a goofy meter reading off a dark jersey or anything. Use AI Servo for sure and ctr pt. focus only to help insure consistently getting good focus. I also like to use back button * focusing to separate it from my exposure. I usually meter partial to again avoid picking up something really off off a jersey or something. With cycling, I have used slower shutter speeds than I might with other sports since you want to convey some motion rather than freeze action. To keep your subject tack sharp, you'll need to pan with them keeping that ctr pt right on your subject. Since you'll be panning (and therefore hopefully getting some blurred background from the pan) you can stop down a bit more which will deliver good IQ and allow you to control your exposure better. Another option is to use some flash which can work well albeit tending to stop action a bit too much if you aren't careful. Here's a few examples shot at f5 and 1/160 (these guys were flying at this point), first without flash, second with flash...

I knew I should listened about that brown acid!

I think that's a processing artifact, not flash related at all. I should just clone it out...in fact, I think I will, thanks for bringin it to my attention.
