I just bought a BG-E2 from a member on the forum. I tried the whole setup out and it would only shoot at around 3 fps. Is this all that it can do with AA batteries? Also, does the grip not work with the li-ion batteries?

Also, kind of off topic, but how is the 200mm f/2.8? Is it a good lens?

Is this for the XTi? The maximum fps for the XTi is 3 fps, so I'm not sure why you are surprised to be getting 3 fps.....???

If this is for a 20/30/40D make sure the drive is set to high speed, there are two settings (3 and 5/6.5 fps)

The 200/2.8L is an excellent lens if you need a 200mm prime.

It's for my 40d. Is the lens as good, if not better than the 70-200mm at 200mm?

Pixel peeping, the 200/2.8 is probably a little better than any of the 70-200 lenses wide open.

Real world prints they are all probably the same.

I made sure and I went into all of my custom functions and double checked. I took off the grip and tried to see if it would hit 6.5 with the lithium battery and it did. I didn't touch anything, just changed the power source...any ideas? also, is there no battery tray for the lithium batteries like there is in the bg-e3?

No, the BP-511s just go directly into the grip. Alkalines aren't recommended except for emergency use.

Remove the AA battery tray and toss it into a corner someplace and forget about it. You'll now be able to use the BP-511 batteries with the grip.

Oh...wow. I'm an idiot. I thought I was doing something completely stupid and I now know what. Thanks for the great help.

Also, are there any other comments on the 200mm f/2.8 prime?

From what I've read, the 200 f/2.8 is an excellent lens. If I didn't already have the 70-200 f/2.8 IS, I wouldn't hesitate getting the prime in a heart beat. If there's anything to complain about with that lens, it's probably the fact that it doesn't have IS. :)
