Hey everyone, I haven't posted/visited here in forever. I decided to come back and see what's going on. I've played with my studio stuff a little here and there, but never done anything with it. Today I decided to actually "try" and see what happens. I set up my set in my mother-in-law's driveway and took some of my sister-in-law and niece.

I'm a wedding photographer and I've got alot to learn about editing studio shots verses ambient/flash lit photos. Please let me know what you think and any suggestions you might have to offer on my lighting technique/post processing. Thank you!

Great shots, love the conversion. You've handled the background well on that last one.

I'm really getting to like this lens, although it takes a bit of work learning it's strengths(especially, if like me, you're used to a zoom)

Just spotted your gear list says 50mm 1.4 - yet you say you've used the 1.2 ???

That gear list is OLD! Haha.

The lenses I have now are 15 2.8, 24 1.4L, 35 1.4L, 50 1.2L, 70-200 2.8L. I got rid of the zoom lenses for two reasons, 1) primes are much faster and perform in low-light far better. I'm a wedding photographer, so this is very valuable. 2) DOF is far easier to control, especially on the wider angle lenses. 3) Primes are far sharper than zoom lenses, very valuable when doing enlargements.

Did I say 2 reasons? Haha, who's counting.

As far as getting use to the lens, my biggest learning curve has come with learning the shallow DOF on a 50mm lens. F2 is far more different at 50mm vs. 35mm. I tend to prefer getting close and using a wide lens, but the 50 has become a needed lens. The benefits of the primes are worth giving up the advantages of a zoom lens, although I would like another lazy lens for shooting some situations, 24-70 2.8L.

2 & 4 are great, she looks pretty comfortable in front of a camera too, which helps.

I say you did a superior job especially for doing it in the driveway!
