Yes, but like the road runners they prefer to stay on the ground. I've seen turkeys fly, but only once. From Wikipedia: "In flight they can reach a speed of 50 miles per hour (80 km/h). They usually fly close to the ground for no more than a quarter mile (400 m)." The turkey in my photo is wild but belongs to a flock that ranges in a small housing development near a wooded area. I see them nearly every day and you can get within 30 yards of them before they spook. Next spring I should be able to get shots of the males in their mating behavior strutting.
