First manual pictures with new 300D

After reading through the manual to figure out the 300D's confusing controls, decided to take pictures! I didn't buy this camera for the green square. Av and Tv really got on my nerves; so far not getting them to do exactly what I want. Been playing in Manual mode and figuring out the settings. I finally balanced my exposure levels properly without relying on shutter speed. (I made a lot of blurry shots at 0.3 shutter speed.) Finally realizing I didn't have the flash on either.

Here the last two shots I took that I got just about perfect with my final settings. The only post-processing I did was to fix the white balance/color in Photoshop. Both pictures had a blue tint to them because I was using the wrong light setting.(I could have sworn it was set on flourescent!)

Both shots taken hand held.

I am quite happy with the clarity of these pictures. Any settings tips that could possibly make them better? (Outside of composition! They're just random objects. )

Good exposure levels. If you're using flash as your main light source, set the WB to flash (auto actually works pretty well with flash as well). Manual is the way to go with the flash. Av and Tv are more preferred for available light photography.

Well that helps a good deal! No wonder Av/Tv where making me insane. I was doing everything inside in the dorm under flourescent lighting. Thanks!

When you shoot flash with Av or Tv, the camera will set exposure as though the flash didn't exist. The flash will act as fill flash. Great when you have an abundance of light, but not quite as useful for normal indoor settings where there isn't enough light.
