Is a mini photovision target good enough?

Who uses one of these? What would be the advantage of the larger sizes? The mini is about as much as I want to carry. I've been using a gray card that is about the same size as the mini target, so it seems like the mini would be OK.

I lost my other card and I figure I can afford to upgrade since I know it's something I use often (plus, this one looks a lot more durable than the $2 one :lol. I just want to make sure I don't end up with one that's too small to be useful in most situations.

It doesn't seem like it would matter if you just walk into the light and hold it up, but then if that's the case, it makes me wonder why there are so many different sizes!

I don't use one, I keep debating between the photovision target and a Expodisc. The mini is pretty small, but it makes sense that if you zoom in and take a shot you should get the same results. I think the main benefit is convenience a bigger target would allow you to shoot, do custom wb, and go. They also double as a reflector (it's white on the back) so a bigger size would be better.

They seem over priced and it's hard to find anyone that actually uses one, which is one reason I have been hesitant to buy one.

I just looked at the expodisc in-store yesterday. It doesn't help with exposure, so it wasn't right for me. I think it would be hard to toss it in my bag without worrying about it breaking or scratching something else. It's heavier than a card or target, too.

Oh... by the way, I watched the videos on the photovision site last night after I posted. He only used one exposure for the WB ad the exposure, even on the mini. He mentioned that Canon concentrates the WB setting on the very center of the screen, so I guess we get lucky. It ignores the other colors as long as the gray is dead center.

I think I'm going to get the mini and see how it works.

Yeah, the exposure part wouldn't be very useful to me. Report back and let us know what you think. I am interested to hear the results.

I use the 14 inch calibrator, and love it. It also doubles as a very small reflector in a pinch. If I didn't want to use it as a reflector at times, I would have bought the small one.
