A family member asked me to take some shots of their car to sell. Any ideas to improve are welcome. I did think about cloning out the street lamp etc. but didn't feel it was that noticeable, if general consensus is otherwise I will revise :)

Shot info: It's a 5 exposure HDR, I decided on the exposure blending option in Photomatix

edit: oh yeah, also, do people just blur out the numberplate because thats what they've seen other people do? What can someone do with knowing the numberplate?

I'd definitely clone out that street lamp. Very noticeable ;)

Overall the car is perhaps a little dark?

Yeah, the car is a little too dark. And you know what? I don't think a small street light in the background is going to have any influence on potential buyers.

Kristian: No, it probably won't stop a buyer :) I haven't shot cars before so this became a learning project for me.

As to the darkness, now that it's been pointed out I have to agree. Thanks for the demo Don.

buyers like to see all the details, they don't necessarily care about composition and such though this should be a good chance to work on that as well.

I usually get a shot of each side, wheels, doors, seats, pretty much the whole car. Any nicks or dings too.

I like the fix. Ad printing is usually crappy, so I might crop way in & brighten it up some more.

The "fixed" image seems to have the mid-tones boosted and the black and shadow areas took a major hit. The black plastic looks gray. Maybe more contrast would help.

PS - please make sure they mention the transmission type in the ad. As a former trans engineer and very frequent buyer of cars, it seems like 75% of the ads I see mention nothing about trans type and it pisses me off . The 6 offers both auto and manual, some older with 4-sp autos, newer have Aisin 6-sp (the one my former company sold).
