I finally purchased my lens and I noticed a tiny spot inside inder the main glass and also it makes a bit of a clicking grinding noise when I have the image stabalization turned on. (the 18-55 IS does not) Would you be concerned with either? Since it is new I would like to replace it but it means another 2 hour drive to get a new one. Pics seem ok..can't see the spot but the pics don't seem as sharp as others on here using this lens.

i don't have this lens...but i'm guessing the noise is just the I.S. system...and if it were me, and the spot isn't showing up/affecting any of the pictures...i wouldn't take it back...as far as not being happy with your shots...the best idea is to post some examples* w/exif intact and many times people will be able to help you

Good idea. When in doubt, and it's this expensive of a hobby, you best not take any chances.

Here is one I did this evening in my garden...took some suggestions such as not setting it to complete zoom and not using largest ap. Again the 1st is straight from camera and the second has PP.

This last photo you posted:

1/30s, f/5.6, iso400 @ 187mm.

That's still taken wide open at that zoom. Looks like you also used flash. Was this taken with IS On or Off?

This last photo looks better than the first you posted, but I still think the IQ (image quality) could be better from the 55-250 lens. That's just my opinion though.
