Hello!!
My 40D is like my child. I have absolutely no complaints about the camera and have enjoyed owning it since day 1.

However, lately, it's been having a bit of a problem and I was wondering if anyone has been experiencing the same with any of your 40Ds.

The problem is the picture styles menu keeps popping up repeatedly as I'm shooting and as I'm reviewing photos on my LCD. It's not really detrimental to my shooting, just REALLY annoying. I've done all the battery and CF card removals/reinsertions but the problem is continuing.

Has anyone else experienced this? I am running on firmware version 1.0.3 so I'm going to charge my battery and update it and see if this will fix it. Until then, happy shooting, everyone!

Is it possible you have the 'set' button of your 40D programmed to enable the 'picture style' menu and that you are inadvertantly pressing this button whilst shooting and viewing?

Not a possibility. Thanks, though! installing firmware now.

This problem persists after you press and release the picture styles button? How does that button feel? It sounds like it's being activated inadvertently, possibly due to a faulty switch or something.

Hi,

You said you removed the battery.

Did you remove both batteries and leave them out for a half hour or so? If there's some ghost stuck in the firmware causing a glitch, besides the BP511 you also have to remove the CR2025, to get the camera to fully clear and "reboot".

You will lose any custom functions or other menu settings you've made doing this. It will completely reset the camera to factory defaults.

I agree, a firmware update like you are doing is also a good idea.

Where is the cr2025 located in the EOS 40D?

Inside the main battery compartment. Remove the BP-511 and there is a sliding tray toward the middle of the camera.
