BH-40 vs M10

Any owners of both of these heads? I've never gotten used to the slight stick in the BH-40 and I am one of those people who rarely locks up my head while using it.

Any direct comparisons of the M10 to BH-40? My largest lens is a 24-70 f/2.8. The folks at Markins recommended that a M10 would be best.

I would be using this on a set of 2540 legs. Should I simply stick with the BH-40 (which has worked fine for me). I here so many good things about the smoothness of the Markins I almost feel inclined top switch.

If your largest lens is a 24-70 then a Markins Q3 is more than enough. If you plan on focal lengths longer than 300 then a M10.

The folks at markins mentioned that a M10 would work much better since the 24-70 is a very top heavy lens.

Have you had the opportunity to use a BH-40 prior to the markins?

I don't have the BH40. I tried it out on a colleague's setup. So, I don't have any long-term experience. On the other hand, I had the Q3 and now have the M10. I can say without reservation, the Q3 will be ample for the 24-70. The M10 will be just as smooth. Both heads are superb.

There have been several thread with users comments regarding the Markins and RRS heads. You might try over at FM. One of the most common comments about the BH40 is the slight drop after lock down. A common comment of the Markins is that the pan lock does not lock securely.

IIRC JohnJ80 has both...

I have the BH-40....just got it a couple of months ago.
My neighbor/friend got the M10 at the same time.

I've tried and used both.

I'm very happy with my choice...I use it all the time and have absolutely NO complaints...only compliments.
He (my neighbor) feels the same way about his choice.
I think that you would be happy with either.
