Do my PP skills stink??

Do these look over done? I still am having a hard time with PP...can anyone reccomend a good book? I am using Adobe 6 . I thought these pics looked ok earlier but the more I look at them the more I don't like them.
Help....:)

No, I don't think they stink at all. The black-and-white one is well done, considering the harsh side lighting. The skin looks a tag grey on the second one, perhaps you could revisit that. The third one has been brutalised by jpeg compression around the facial features, but looks ok - again, perhaps a little dull in the skintones.

Is your monitor calibrated?

Re: books - do a quick search in the Post Processing forum, there's many good recommendations.

open the images up and adjust your levels. Increase brightness to about 225 and darken the shadows to around 0.80. This will enhance the green and brighten there clothes and remove the overall fuzziness of the images. That alone will make a huge difference.
