best book to teach photography

im new to the dslr game and im still confused on what certain factors (mainly speaking iso/ shutter speed/ exposure/ and aperture are and what they do to the image when they are increased or decreased)...any ideas o the best books or DVD tutorials ot teach me all this....
ALSO can u please explain what all these factors (iso, shutter sped, exposure, aperture) are and how they affect the picture when they are decreased or increased???

Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson is a good one to start with. Dont take the figures he quotes as gospel but it gives you a good basic understanding of the exposure triangle and also some basic settings to start from.

I'm sure others will chime in shortly with other ideas.

Another vote for Understanding Exposure. As neilwood32 said it will give you a good understanding of the basics. ALso be sure to stick around here.

Not a book, per se, but you might find Jodie Coston's Online Photography Course beneficial: http://www.morguefile.​com/archive/classroom.​php. This is an excellent beginner's resource.
