Have you noticed any difference thus far since you got it back?

Yes, so far it seems to be working ok, it doesn't hesitate anymore. I still have to put it up against the 5D, but that'll happen as part of my 50L tests, fluorescent lighting focus accuracy test, and 85L/40D battery problem test :D.

Kind regards, Wim

P.S.: getting sick of testing....

I can't say I ever had a problem with the AF on my 20D. I didn't tend to move away from the centre point, but the centre point was always fine. I'm not sure if I'll get used to the slower AF from f/4 & 30D AF system though.

I guess one option would be to simply skip the whole FF upgrade, and get another 40D, get a 24-70 again, and more or less go back to what I had.

My experience was completely different. Though i have the 20D for comparison. I could never trust the 20D at f/2. Not even the central. The 5D is MUCH more accurate then my 20D. Around 85-90% spot on at f/2 using the central. As for speed i can't tell much of a difference, it's never been a problem. One other thing I've noticed is that the 5D is much better in Servo too. Must be the 6 hidden assist points.
