My daughter and I had a 4 hour photo shoot on Friday. We are going to be on the cover of AMA
(American Motorcycle Assoc) mag in October.
It was fascinating to watch the photographer work. She had a helper, and I learned I could never be a helper! Change this, change that, move this, try that. Ack too many orders for me!
They set up in my garage, with the background screen, 4 light sources, an octagon thingy (sorry I'm not very knowledgeable about this stuff) it was all hooked into her Nikon camera. There was a stylist who did our hair and makeup, and kept up with every little move of hair and putting everything back in place.
The photographer looked up from her camera at one point and told me I was not looking in the lens. Oops, I was checking out your gear!
We then moved to the outside for shots of the bikes, the rain was barely holding off. She's up on the stool, down on the ground, getting extra points for doing complex yoga moves to get the right shot.
After a pizza break, we headed out to the road for some action shots, we were loosing light fast, it was 7:30. We found a secluded road where we road down the street past the photographer, then did a U-turn and back the other way. We did this about dozen takes on the. I can't imagine how difficult it is to properly capture a motorcycle, with its bright headlight blaring at you. I did see a couple of shots, the ones from the back looked very promising.
By that time the light was gone and we headed back to the house for some shots without riding gear. The stylist had plenty of work to fix the helmet hair and the makeup left in the helmets! We posed in front of some trip maps doing a lot of pointing and smiling. The article is about a 5 week cross country
tour my daughter and I took last summer.
We are supposed to get a link to be able to preview them, but the magazine will be doing the picking. We will be able to get a couple of the photos suitable for framing.
I don't aspire to be a pro photographer, but it sure was nice to watch a pro in action!
